The Residence
Ungría REsidency is an art space located in a house in Fuentes de la Alcarria, a little village close to Brihuega (Guadalajara).
Ungría is the name of the tiny river that originates in Fuentes, and go trough the Ungría´s valley, declared in 2022 Protected Landscape for the regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, because of the incredible nature.
Ungría wants to be a place where establish sinergies between artists and local people, being on a quiet armony with the environment.
This project values culture as a way, or a tool to generate emotional bonds, profesional, intergenerational… with which we can create an enriching experience for the local people and the artists who visit us.
Culture is really important to construct union, integration, identity, saving folk arts, traditional knowledges, or the memory of the people from La ALcarria.
Ungría is a place to explore, improvisation, a place to rest, research and create. All of this with a slow philosophy, giving attention to the smallest an closest things.
Sources of the Alcarria
Fuentes de la Alcarria is a village dependent on Brihuega, in the province of Guadalajara, Spain.
Actually there are 20 people living in Fuentes, but in summer there are five times more.
The village is 5 minutes from Brihuega by car, 15 minutes from Guadalajara and one hour from Madrid.
Fuentes is in La Alcarria, natural region with extensive cereal landscapes, but also green valleys with rivers as Ungría river, earthy soils, limestone and aromatic plants. Honey is the famous and most typical product. From a few years ago, lavender fields are surrounding Brihuega and are getting very popular as a tourist attraction, with a lot of activities and products related to lavender plants.
Fuentes had a big castle with walls that surrounded the village. Actually we can see just some stones, and the arch in the main square. But the village has another secret, a lot of ancient caves and bodegas inside and down the houses.
